In The Balance
Shara Slatter or Sally as she was called by her stage name was a cousin of Master Gracey. A young woman who came from a wealthy family in Georgia, as a child she had a rebellious streak to her when her parents wanted her to be a proper lady. At the age of 15, Sally decided to run away and join the circus to pursue her dreams. Sally joined the circus in his honor, and thus became a talented acrobat and tight-rope walker.
She made her debut in McKim’s Carnival of Dreams, where she met her lover Paul the circus lion tamer. However this relationship was too short, Paul was mauled to death by the lions. With the loss of her lover, Sally slipped into a melancholic stage of grief. During that stage, she would consult with the carnival's fortunate teller to communicate with her deceased lover.
However it wasn't until the summer of 1908, Sally was invited to her cousin’s wedding in New Orleans. The trip was long, but Sally became lost in the middle of the swampy bayous. There she found an old rope that was suspended between a river. Sally unwitly decided to cross the rope, however as she was in the middle, the old rope gave way and poor Sally fell…..into the jaws of an alligator.
