Faithful till the End

Beauregard Frees 1836-1899 Beauregard Frees was born in 1836 to a hard working family in Mobile, Alabama. As a child, Beauregard was considered an outsider towards his classmates for his love of all things strange and macabre. He would spend most of his time reading ghost stories from Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving and Mary Shelly. As he entered adulthood, he became a professional actor on the stage, playing the parts of Richard the III and Caliban from the Tempest.  Frees retired from the acting business and moved to New Orleans, where he became the majordomo at the Gracey’s Winter Home which later became Gracey Manor. Despite his awkward appearances, Beauregard had a heart of gold inside of him. He was a loyal servant to Master William Gracey and secret lover to Leota.      One fateful night in 1897, Beauregard heard  a disturbance in the house. Armed with a hatchet to frighten the intruder, only to come face to face with an entity in the halls ...

Music to their Ears

Victor Geist 1858-1897 Victor Geist was one of the most prominent musicians in Switzerland. As a child, he was privately schooled by a master pianist. Victor would perform in concerts and parties to entertain the nobles. After his parents death, he later moved to America, where he became employed by Master William Gracey as the resident musician. One of Gracey’s finds was a Scottish pipe organ from a Scottish landowner that was rumored to be cursed. It was here he would perform for the many parties at Gracey Manor.  One day while Victor was practicing for his latest piece, the lid on the slammed itself shut. Victor survived, but it left his fingers disfigured. After the trauma, Victor lost his musical ability and couldn't cope with it anymore. He later poisoned himself. After his death Victor still played on his favorite organ.

Randal Crump 1857-1898 Randal Crump was the son of cutthroat businessman Adison Crump in New England. Unlike following his father’s footsteps, Randal had a keen eye for beauty in fashion. It wasn't until his father found out about his obsession and was kicked out of his house. However Randal began making his way in the world as an apprentice in a dress shop.     As the years went by, Randal grew into a successful milliner with god-like skills. It wasn't when Randal was anointed to assemble the trousseau for Master Gracey’s bride to be. It was here that Randal and Emily would usually meet in the attic to her dress and mend her veil.  It was on the eve of the wedding that Ranal had gotten a last minute sample of hats and veils for the young bride. As he ascended the stairs to the attic, he felt an aura of foreboding doom. In High Spirits

If there was one thing the Graceys were known for, was their knack for throwing parties in their mansion. Grand balls and dances would be the talk of the town. Although Halloween was a relatively new holiday in America, it had caught on in New Orleans. The townsfolk dressed up as ghosts, witches, and monsters, or took on more fashionable disguises, and even posed as the heroes of the Battle of New Orleans and the American Civil War. This allowed the more unwanted folk to blend right in. On this occasion, George and Abigail planned to go as Mr and Mrs Washington in honor of their countries central. Inside the grand hall, the Organist sat down at the large pipe organ and played a mournful, haunting melody as costumed guests twirled around the dance floor. Heads Will Roll

Various-1896 Theodore Ravenswing, Algernon Blackfall, Phineus Pox, Rollo Rumpkin and Ned Nub were members of the Yale Glee Club at the time Master Gracey was a student. The five friends formed their own singing group which was the most popular entertainment at the social functions. They asked their classmate William to come up with a catchy name for the quintet. He suggested that since their singing was soft and sweet as marshmallows that they should call themselves the Mallow Men. The ensemble continued to perform for a short time after graduation, in time they became famous act on vaudeville routine.  In 1896 Master Gracey invited his fellow alumni to the Mansion. The turnout was excellent despite the ominous thunderstorm, and by air time the courtyard was overflowing with cheerful alumni. Constance Hatchaway  1851-??? The Hatchaway Family came from Georgia, Clearance Hatchaway was a wealthy landowner - his wife Eleanor and their young daughter Constance.  As a child, Constance was tutored how to be a proper woman and dutiful wife . Constance latched on to these dreams, hopeful that one day they would be lifted up from her boring confines of being a proper lady, finding her true love and living the high life.  All that changed after the Civil War when the slaves were free and the Hatchaways were penniless.
