A Short Fuse
Alexander Nitrokoff's family came from Romania, through hard work and perseverance Alexander grew into a successful man.
After college he entered into the diplomatic corps. His duties took him from the State Department in Washington to far-flung capitals of the globe. In 1878, Alexander was appointed ambassador to Burma. In latter years, Alexander would occasionally help with Master William Gracey to export many of the relics and artifacts for his own collection in his mansion.
One evening, soon after his arrival in Rangoon, he was dressing for a banquet. While waiting for his trousers to be mended two anarcics barging into the embassy, armed with a barrel of dynamite planning to blow up the building. They evacuated the place beforehand, unaware that Alexander was still his speech. Hearing the commotion downstairs, Alexander confronted the two men, just as they were igniting the keg.
Alexander boldly leapt onto the barrel in his underwear and declared to the astonished men, “By God, if you blow up this embassy, you shall take me with it!” The guerrillas did not know how to react, simply shrugged, and ran out of the building. Alexander tried to extinguish the fuse, but it was in vain. Like a captain going down with his ship, poor Alexander went up with his embassy.
